Questions
Is it really free, and do I need an account?
Yes, MarkdownBooks is 100% free with no signup, account, or credit card required. Upload limits are 300 pages and 30 MB per upload.
Can I publish the PDF directly to Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, or Lulu?
Yes. Choosing the Print-ready PDF profile produces publication-grade PDFs with industry-standard trim sizes (such as 6 × 9 in and A5), 3 mm bleed margins, and optional crop marks that pass Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, and Lulu ingestion checks.
Which output formats can I convert Markdown into?
You can generate Screen PDF, Print-ready PDF, reflowable EPUB (compatible with Apple Books, Kindle, and Kobo), Microsoft Word (DOCX), and standalone HTML—all at once from a single Markdown manuscript.
Can I design or customize the front cover and fonts?
Yes. The built-in cover generator lets you customize the book title, subtitle, author name, background and text colors, and font styles. You can pick distinct fonts for Title, Tagline, and Author, including modern Techno fonts (Orbitron, Rajdhani, Audiowide), editorial serifs (Palatino, Georgia), modern sans, and technical monospace.
How do I create chapters and a Table of Contents in Markdown?
Use standard Markdown headings. Level-one headings (# Chapter Title) automatically define chapter breaks and generate an interactive, linked Table of Contents in your PDF, EPUB, Word, and HTML files.
Can I combine multiple Markdown files into a single book?
Yes. Select and upload multiple .md files or a .zip archive. When files start with sequential numbers (like 01-intro.md, 02-chapter1.md), MarkdownBooks stitches them together in numerical order automatically.
Does MarkdownBooks support images and code blocks?
Yes. Both Markdown images () and HTML <img> tags are fully supported. Remote images and pasted GitHub images are fetched and verified for print resolution. Fenced code blocks with language identifiers include syntax styling.
Do I need to install Pandoc, LaTeX, or any software?
No. Everything runs in the cloud through our automated Typst publishing pipeline. You never need to install command-line tools, LaTeX dependencies, or local compilers.
What happens to my files?
Your uploaded files are deleted from worker storage as soon as your book is compiled. Download links use cryptographically random identifiers, are never listed publicly, and are permanently deleted after 24 hours. We never read or retain your text beyond that.
Does it check my manuscript for errors before publishing?
Yes. Every upload passes through our automated manuscript linter, which checks for broken internal links, dead web URLs, missing image assets, and syntax errors, giving you exact line numbers and fix recommendations.
Which templates can I use?
Choose from the published templates in the PDF options (Classic, Novel, Technical, Programming, Academic, Minimal), each with a live visual preview before you generate your book.
